Dark Horse Barista

Location: Hamilton International Airport, 9300 Airport Road, Mount Hope

Schedule: 4 to 8+ hour shifts between 03:30am and 10:00pm (subject to change). Shift end times must be flexible to accommodate changing flight schedules.

Hours of Operation: 03:30-21:00 (subject to change)

Dark Horse Espresso Bar is a pioneer in Toronto's specialty coffee community, attracting those who appreciate great coffee, handmade pastries, and a welcoming environment. Over the past 15 years, we've expanded from a neighborhood cafe to six shops across vibrant Toronto neighborhoods.

About The Position

A Dark Horse Barista is passionate about coffee and community, enjoys teamwork, and has a natural affinity for customer service. We support our Baristas' growth through paid training and career advancement opportunities.

Responsibilities

1. Provide exceptional customer service and foster an inclusive environment.
2. Prepare coffee beverages accurately according to recipes, especially espresso dial-ins.
3. Serve alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, beer, wine, and canned drinks.
4. Support cafe products and services, including food, pastries, and merchandise.
5. Collaborate with partners at Detour Coffee & Dear Grain Bakery.
6. Represent Dark Horse in the specialty coffee community.
7. Act with integrity and uphold company values and safety policies.
8. Follow all airport rules and health and safety policies.
9. Provide feedback for process improvements.
10. Manage ordering, inventory, and queue as needed.
11. Follow operational policies, including cash handling and safety protocols.
12. Use POS system for orders when necessary.
13. Maintain attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications

• Experience in specialty coffee programs.
• Strong personal brand and relationship-building skills.
• Active member of the specialty coffee community.
• Experience in food property growth.
• Proficiency with hospitality software (POS, scheduling, purchasing).
• Highly organized, accountable, and capable of overseeing a team.
• Curious and committed to personal development.
• Collaborative, innovative, and receptive to feedback.
• Excellent communication skills and kindness.
• Valid Ontario Smart Serve and Food Handler certifications.

Preferred Skills

• 1+ year barista experience.
• 1+ year bartending experience.
• 3+ years hospitality experience.
• 1+ year specialty coffee experience.
• RAIC certification or willingness to obtain.

Schedule and Compensation

• Monday to Friday and weekends.
• Non-standard hours due to federal property location.
• Pay: $17.20 to $17.75/hour plus gratuities.
