Dark Horse Barista

Location - Hamilton International Airport 9300 Airport Road, Mount Hope

Schedule - 4 to 8+ hour shifts between 03:30am and 22:00pm (subject to change).

Shift end times must be flexible to accommodate changing flight schedules.

Hours of Operation (Subject to Change): 03:30-21:00

Dark Horse Espresso Bar is a pioneer in the Toronto specialty coffee community and has become a spot attracting those who like great coffee, handmade pastries, and a comfortable environment. The inspiration for Dark Horse came from a desire to create an environment where people would feel a sense of belonging. A place where they could come to relax, reflect or socialize, and re-energize with seriously great coffee. Over the past 15 years, we have evolved from one beloved neighborhood cafe to a collection of six shops in vibrant neighborhoods across the city.

About The Position

A Dark Horse Barista has a passion for coffee, community and enjoys working as part of a team. Candidates must possess a natural affinity for customer service and get excited by the chance to build their skill-set within the coffee industry. General Responsibilities

1. Provide exceptional customer service and foster a warm and inclusive environment.
2. Prepare coffee beverages according to company recipes (with a specific emphasis on accurate dial-ins of our Espresso menu).
3. Prepare and serve alcoholic beverages, including mixed cocktails, beer, wine, and canned beverages.
4. Support all product and services at cafe including food, pastry and merchandising.
5. Continue to enhance collaboration with our partners at Detour Coffee & Dear Grain Bakery.
6. Represent Dark Horse within the specialty coffee community.
7. Act with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Dark Horse.
8. Follow health and safety policies.
9. Follow all rules and regulations in place at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM).
10. Provide management with feedback on how we can improve our processes.
11. Demonstrate strategic understanding of food service operations by providing recommendations.
12. Execute (when necessary) ordering, inventory management, queue management, and more.
13. Follows all operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling & safety, security during each shift.
14. Taking food and beverage orders using POS system (when necessary).
15. Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Experience within a specialty coffee program.
2. Well-developed personal brand and a proven ability to build relationships across an industry.
3. Should be an active member of the specialty coffee community.
4. A proven executor that has participated in the successful growth of food properties.
5. Comfortable with key hospitality software including POS, scheduling and purchasing systems.
6. Highly accountable and well-organized, with an ability to oversee a team of staff and prioritize multiple projects.
7. An insatiable curiosity and willingness to learn, anchored in a constant pursuit of personal development.
8. Collaborative and innovative consensus builder that solicits 360-degree feedback.
9. Can inspire and influence staff, consumers and other stakeholders.
10. A positive ambassador with strong communication skills and a genuine kindness, thoughtfulness.
11. Must hold valid Ontario Smart Serve and Ontario Food Handler certifications.

Good to Have

1. Barista experience: 1 year.
2. Bartending experience: 1 year.
3. Hospitality: 3 years.
4. Specialty coffee: 1 year.
5. RAIC approval or willingness to take.

Schedule and Pay

1. Monday to Friday & Weekends.
2. This is a federal property location and will have non-standard working hours.
3. Compensation $17.20 to $17.75 per hour, plus gratuities.
