Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review assigned event details and menus prior to the scheduled event.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with staff to ensure appearance and hygiene standards; assign stations and partners; review banquet event orders.
  • Coordinate with Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager and event coordinator to ensure planning and execution; communicate changes promptly.
  • Ensure adequate quantities of china, glassware, silverware, linens, and other items; requisition shortages.
  • Check room setup and confirm quantities and timing with the Executive Chef.
  • Handle equipment properly and store after use.
  • Conduct random audits during functions to evaluate food and service.
  • Ensure food is served at proper temperature and upsell opportunities are met.
  • Review banquet schedule for changes and special events; uphold safe work practices.
  • Maintain reliable attendance; perform other duties as required.

Position Summary

The Banquet Supervisor coordinates and oversees all catering events to ensure proper execution and guest satisfaction. They will provide exceptional customer service throughout the entire event process to maintain the highest standard of satisfaction. Successful candidates are friendly, honest, build strong relationships, continually strive for a seamless experience, and are flexible with clients' and guests' needs by providing quality services and products through detailed and accurate communication. Spruce Meadows team members must share the values of adaptability, awareness of guest requirements, strong character, and a team‑centric approach.

This role pays an hourly rate of $24.00 CAD.

About The Venue

Spruce Meadows is South Calgary's leading Sports and Entertainment District, located on the border of Southwest Calgary. Regarded as one of the top show‑jumping venues on the planet, a stunning 500‑acre property also hosts a wide range of events, including tournaments, concerts, festivals, and world‑famous markets.

Responsibilities

  • Review assigned event details and menus prior to the scheduled event.
  • Conduct pre‑shift meetings with staff to ensure appearance and hygiene standards are being met, assign stations and partners, and review banquet event orders.
  • Communicate with the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager or event coordinator to ensure all details have been planned and met; ensure that changes and further instructions are made in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate quantities of china, glassware, silverware, linens, and other items are available for upcoming events; secure requisitions for items not available in inventory.
  • Check room setup prior to the event and meet with the Executive Chef to confirm quantities of food items and timing of food leaving the kitchen.
  • Ensure proper handling of all equipment (i.e., china, glassware, silverware, linen, and props) and their proper storage after use.
  • Conduct random audits during functions to evaluate food and service.
  • Ensure that food is served at an appropriate temperature, placed properly on the table, sufficient food is available, and upsell opportunities are met.
  • Regularly review the banquet schedule for changes, calendar of events, and special events.
  • Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years’ experience working in a supervisory capacity in a food & beverage environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including co‑workers, customers, and management, focusing on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team‑oriented, fast‑paced, event‑driven environment.
  • Food handling certificate is preferred.
  • ProServe qualification is required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
