Job summary

Oak View Group is seeking a Banquet Supervisor for Spruce Meadows in Calgary to coordinate and oversee catering events, ensuring guest satisfaction and seamless service. You will lead pre-shift briefings, manage staff assignments, and coordinate with the Executive Chef to execute plans on schedule.

The role requires 1–2 years of supervisory experience in food & beverage, strong communication, and teamwork, with ProServe qualifications.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a supervisory capacity in a food & beverage environment.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including co-workers, customers, and management, which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Food handling certificate is preferred.
  • ProServe qualification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews assigned event details and menus prior to the scheduled event.
  • Conducts pre-shift meetings with staff to ensure appearance and hygiene standards are being met, assign stations and partners, and review banquet event orders.
  • Communicates with the Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager or event coordinator to ensure that all details have been planned for and met. Ensures that changes and further instructions are made in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that appropriate quantities of china, glassware, silverware, linens, and other items are available for upcoming events. Secure requisitions for those items not available in inventory.
  • Checks room setup prior to the event and meets with Executive Chef to confirm quantities of food items and timing of food leaving the kitchen.
  • Ensures proper handling of all equipment (i.e., china, glassware, silverware, linen, and props) and their proper storage after use.
  • Conducts random audits during functions to evaluate food and service. Ensures that food is served at an appropriate temperature, food is placed properly on the table, sufficient food is available, and upsell opportunities are met.
  • Regularly reviews the banquet schedule for changes, calendar of events, and special events.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Position Summary

The Banquet Supervisor coordinates and oversees all catering events to ensure proper execution and ensure guest satisfaction. They will provide exceptional customer service throughout the entire event process to ensure the highest standard of customer satisfaction. To be successful in this role, candidates must be friendly and honest, build strong relationships, continually strive to provide a seamless experience, and be flexible with our clients' and their guests' needs by providing quality services and products through detailed and accurate communication. This role pays an hourly rate of $24.00 CAD.

About The Venue

Spruce Meadows is South Calgary's leading Sports and Entertainment District, located on the border of Southwest Calgary.
