Description

We're looking for a Trainee Baker to work and learn alongside the Bakery Team at Saltwater Bakery + Provisions in Prince Rupert, BC. This is a part-time positions with 15 to 30 hours of work available per week. As trainee baker, you will work alongside the Bakery Team learning traditional craft baking skills, and producing quality, healthy breads and baked goods for our community. Bakery work involves early mornings (shifts as early as 4am), and production is dependent on punctuality and strong time management and prioritization skills. Bakers need to be observant and detail oriented, recipes need to be accurately followed, and intermediate arithmetic skills are essential. Workplace safety and food safety are paramount. The work of a baker involves both heavy lifting and repetitive motions, and you must be able to clearly demonstrate how to safely accomplish these tasks. You will be trained on how to safely operate all bakery equipment and tools, which must be strictly followed at all times. Food Safe procedures will be trained and must be adhered to, and the facility is to be kept at a high degree of cleanliness at all times. Although past experience is not required, your suitability for this position is demonstrated by past work experience in a restaurant, work camp kitchen, or other food production operation, or participation in a culinary training course or program. An interest in creating food with your hands is essential. Supported formal training leading to a Baker Red Seal or Baker Certificate may be available to the right candidate. We are looking for candidates with a current Food Safe Level 1 certificate, and either a High School Diploma or a GED certificate. You need to be comfortable standing for long periods and capable of lifting at least 50 lbs. Strong verbal and written English communication skills are also necessary as well as basic math skills. We consider a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle an asset.
