Job summary

Direct IT Recruiting Inc. seeks an experienced Cloud Data Platform Engineer to modernize and move enterprise-grade data workloads to Azure cloud (IaaS).

The role combines lift-and-shift to Azure VMs, refactoring legacy on-prem systems to scalable cloud infrastructure, and migrating data from Oracle/SQL Server to Snowflake. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in data or software engineering, with strong Python/C# skills, SSIS, and experience in CI/CD and DevOps practices.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering roles.
  • Previous experience in the investment or financial services industry preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, C# for data engineering and automation.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases such as Oracle and/or SQL Server.
  • Experience with SSIS is a strong asset.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow or similar orchestration frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake.
  • Working knowledge of AKS.
  • Exposure to data replication tools such as HVR is an asset.
  • Experience working in Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
  • Proven experience migrating and refactoring on-premises systems to cloud infrastructure (IaaS).
  • Knowledge of Order Management Systems such as Charles River Development (CRD) is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Books & Records systems such as Simcorp Dimension (SCD) is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to create comprehensive unit tests and maintain high code quality.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps/DataOps practices.
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Git
  • Strong collaboration skills with architects, business analysts, DBAs, and QA/test peers.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Refactor and migrate on-premises services written in .NET and data workloads (including custom C# code and SSIS packages) to Azure cloud infrastructure (IaaS).
  • Design, build, and maintain cloud-native data pipelines using Python and Airflow where needed.
  • Analyze datasets in Oracle and SQL Server and prepare scripts for deployment to Snowflake, validating data migration between Oracle/SQL Server and Snowflake to ensure data integrity is maintained.
  • Implement strong unit testing and quality controls to support safe refactoring.
  • Contribute to validation and support, observability, and continuous platform improvement throughout the migration.
  • Promote software engineering best practices including strong documentation, code reviews, and CI/CD.

Type: 9-month contract

Rate: $90-100/hr, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week

DESCRIPTION:

Seeking an experienced Cloud Data platform Engineer to modernize and implement enterprise-grade solutions supporting investment operation post-trade workflows. This role includes a combination of:

(1) Lift-and-shift of existing code base and services to Azure VMs while ensuring and maintaining end-to-end system and operational reliability

(2) Refactoring legacy on-premises systems (primarily .NET) and migrating them to scalable cloud-based infrastructure, while maintaining high standards of code quality, testing discipline, and operational reliability.

(3) The migration and/or replication of data from legacy on-prem databases (Oracle/SQL Server) to Snowflake.

The ideal candidate works collaboratively with architects, business analysts, peer developers, DBAs, and testers, and applies AI tools responsibly to accelerate delivery and validation without compromising quality or maintainability.
