Job summary

Jim Pattison Volkswagen Surrey is seeking an Automotive Service Technician to diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicles, upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. You will work in a fast-paced dealership environment, performing inspections, diagnosing issues, and communicating findings to the service team while adhering to safety protocols and company policies.

Qualifications include Red Seal certification (or working toward it), valid BC Driver’s licence, and strong diagnostic

• Red Seal Certification as an Automotive Service Technician or working toward it.
• Previous experience as an automotive technician is required.
• A valid BC Driver’s licence and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
• Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Well organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
• Able to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
• Physical ability to lift up to 60 pounds, stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles per manufacturer and dealer standards.
• Carry out thorough vehicle inspections with accurate documentation.
• Identify mechanical and electrical issues, recommend solutions, and communicate findings to the Service team.
• Safely service high-voltage systems using approved procedures and PPE.
• Partner with Service Advisors for repair timelines and additional work.
• Road test and perform pre-delivery inspections on new inventory.
• Source needed components with Parts Department and manage warranty labelling.
• Support fellow technicians to help the shop run productively.
• Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized at all times.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Maintain confidentiality of company and customer information.
• Help foster a supportive, engaging work environment.

Jim Pattison Volkswagen Surrey is seeking an Automotive Service Technician to join our team. In this role, you will diagnose, maintain, and repair Volkswagen’s expanding vehicle lineup while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety.

Pay Range: $38.00 to $50.00 per hour, depending on certification and experience level

A Day in the Life

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles in accordance with manufacturer and dealership standards
• Carry out thorough vehicle inspections with accurate documentation and measurements
• Identify mechanical and electrical issues, recommend solutions, and clearly communicate findings to the Service team
• Safely de-energize, isolate, and re-energize high-voltage systems using approved procedures and personal protective equipment
• Partner with Service Advisors to provide repair timeline updates and recommend additional safety-related work
• Conduct road tests and pre-delivery inspections on new inventory to ensure every vehicle leaves the shop in top condition
• Work with the Parts Department to source needed components and manage warranty labelling
• Support fellow technicians as needed to help the shop run productively
• Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized at all times
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards
• Maintain strict confidentiality of company and customer information
• Help foster a supportive, engaging work environment

What We’re Looking For

• Red Seal Certification as an Automotive Service Technician, or currently working toward it
• Previous experience as an automotive technician is required
• A valid BC Driver’s licence and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract are required
• Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with excellent attention to detail
• Well organized, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
• Able to stay calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Reliable, punctual, and dependable
• Ability to meet the physical demands of a service technician role, including:
  • Regularly lifting up to 60 pounds
  • Standing for extended periods
  • A high level of mobility, dexterity, endurance, and sensory awareness
• Ability to work in an automotive shop environment, including:
  • An indoor shop with multiple service bays
  • Exposure to noise (engines, air tools), fumes (exhaust, solvents), and dust
  • Working around moving vehicles, hoists, and heavy equipment
  • Varying temperatures (the shop may be cooler in winter and warmer in summer, despite heating and ventilation)
