Automotive Mechanic / Automotive Service Technician

Position Summary

The Automotive Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining customer vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to efficiently perform repairs while maintaining high standards of workmanship and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Diagnostics & Repairs
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and drivability issues using diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel vehicles.
  • Repair or replace engines, transmissions, steering systems, suspension components, brakes, exhaust systems, and cooling systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems, including wiring, sensors, charging systems, and vehicle computers.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and identify additional repair needs.
Preventative Maintenance
  • Complete routine maintenance services including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid services, filters, and lubrication.
  • Perform manufacturer-recommended maintenance according to service schedules.
  • Inspect vehicles for wear, safety concerns, and potential future repairs.
Work Order Documentation
  • Accurately document inspections, diagnostics, repairs performed, parts used, and recommendations.
  • Complete work orders and technician notes in a timely manner.
  • Record labour times and maintain accurate service records.
Customer Service
  • Communicate findings and repair recommendations to the Service Advisor or Service Manager.
  • Provide clear and accurate information regarding vehicle condition and repair requirements.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when interacting with customers.
Shop Operations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and shop machinery.
  • Follow all company policies, manufacturer procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Assist with training and mentoring apprentices and junior technicians when required.
Qualifications
Required
  • Red Seal Automotive Service Technician Certification (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic scan tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred
  • Experience with electronic diagnostics and advanced vehicle systems.
  • Experience working with domestic and import vehicles.
  • Commercial vehicle experience considered an asset.
  • Inspection license (where applicable).
