Job summary

Linamar Corporation seeks an Automation Technician to act as a plant resource for line improvements, line automation, and realignment of product flow equipment in collaboration with Engineering and Maintenance.

The role involves working with engineers, program managers, and supervisors to reduce costs, plan efficient workflows, and ensure safety and compliance with CSA and OSHA standards. A three-year technical program plus relevant licenses are required.

Qualifications

• Three-year program in electrical or mechanical technology.
• Trade license in Industrial Electrical Maintenance (442A).
• Electronics Technician/Technologist Certificate, Electrician Qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers and program managers to reduce costs and remove non-value-added material from production lines.
• Engage at APQP stage of program start-up.
• Plan assigned work to minimize machine downtime while ensuring safety.
• Troubleshoot process automation problems.
• Assist in resolving non-value-added processes after PPAP approval.
• Involve in design stage of processes for start-up and current projects.
• Ensure equipment complies with CSA, OSHA, and Electrical Safety Code.

Job Title: Automation Technician

Serve as a plant resource for line improvements, line automation, realignment of product flow equipment and machinery in conjunction with Engineering and Maintenance.

Responsibility

• Work with manufacturing engineers, project engineers, and program managers, set up personnel and maintenance departments to reduce costs and remove non-value-added material from production lines.
• Work with program managers and project engineers at the APQP stage of a program start-up.
• Plan assigned work in an efficient method to minimize machine downtime while ensuring employee safety is maintained.
• Troubleshoot process automation problems.
• Work with engineering following PPAP approval in resolving non-value-added processes.
• Work in design stage of processes both for start-up and current production projects.
• Ensure all new and rebuilt equipment has all features required by CSA, OSHA, and Electrical Safety Code.

Academic/Educational Requirements

• Completed three-year program in electrical or mechanical technology.
• Trade license in Industrial Electrical Maintenance (442A).
• Electronics Technician/Technologist Certificate, Electrician Qualification or equivalent.

Required Skills/Experience

• Minimum requirement of three years' experience in CNC and robotic repair/ programming.
• Understanding of electrical / electronic schematic diagrams, blueprints and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
• Ability to refer to quality specification forms to verify that products comply with required standards for dimensions, material compositions and tolerance levels for strength, durability and stress tests.
• Ability to evaluate the condition of damaged mechanical equipment and make recommendations for repair or replacement.
• Participate in meetings with supervisors, co-workers and employees to plan upcoming activities and to update projects.
• Ability to work independently and within a team-based environment.
• Knowledge of advanced PLC programming including Allan Bradley, ControlLogix/RS Logix, Siemens S7, Fanuc.
• Knowledge of robot systems (ABB, Motoman). Basic knowledge of computer networking, Ethernet connections, TCP/IP protocol. Experience with the use of statistical analysis software and computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining.
• Continuous learning to maintain a current knowledge of policies, procedures, and industry standards. Required to learn through courses and on the job initiatives to further develop professional skills.
