Job summary

TC Industries of Canada Ltd. in Guelph is seeking an Automation Technician to join our team. The role focuses on commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining large automated systems, including robotic cells and production lines.

You will program PLCs (Allen Bradley), HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and vision systems, while aiding CAD work and electrical schematics. Travel to other locations, including international trips, is required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or advanced diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Electromechanical, Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics, or related engineering technology.
• 5+ years experience in industrial automation, controls, electrical troubleshooting, or related manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 3 years experience PLC programming.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of large machines, industrial equipment, robotic cells, and automated production lines.
• Program PLCs (Allen Bradley), HMIs, VFDs, Servo drives, Robots (Motoman), and Vision Systems.
• Design, verification and maintenance of electrical schematics.
• Assist with CAD work including 2D and 3D mechanical drawings.
• Repair and service electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotic and vision systems.
• Assist in proper maintenance of all programming software, application files and programming hardware.
• Responsible to improve equipment reliability and uptime related to automation and controls.
• Assist in preventative maintenance of production and support equipment.
• Implementation of continuous improvement ideas related to automation and robotics as assigned.
• Assist with implementation of automation projects at our other locations, both remotely and on site, including some international travel.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Automation Technician role requires strong technical expertise and troubleshooting skills. • Diploma or advanced diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation and Control, Electromechanical, Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related engineering technology discipline.
• 5+ years experience in industrial automation, controls, electrical troubleshooting, or a related manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 3 years experience PLC programming.
• Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to interpret and design electrical schematics.
• Effective written and oral communication.
• Occasional travel (approx. 8-10 weeks per year) to our other locations required. This includes international overnight travel.
• Valid passport or eligibility for a passport is required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience working with robots and machine vision would be an asset.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, natural Gas, CNC machines, would be an asset.
