Job summary

H2O Innovation Inc. is seeking an Automation Support Service Engineer to join our team. You will be a key technical resource supporting design, programming, testing, deployment and ongoing performance of automation solutions for water and wastewater systems.

You will collaborate with project teams, sales and field personnel to ensure PLC, HMI and SCADA systems operate safely and reliably, with travel to client sites for commissioning and support roughly 25% of the time.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in a similar role in automation.
• Proficiency in PLC, HMI and SCADA programming, development and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of hardware and software upgrade methods for automated systems.
• Ability to plan and execute comprehensive system tests.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues.
• Ability to write clear technical documents and provide training.
• Excellent communication, customer service and teamwork skills.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation, Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar control platforms is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer support tickets and service requests as the primary technical resource.
• Connect remotely to customer systems to diagnose and resolve automation issues.
• Program, modify, troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems.
• Analyze user needs and develop programming plans.
• Verify and validate automation changes through FAT, SAT, startup and commissioning.
• Perform upgrades and identify improvements to increase performance and uptime.
• Assist sales in developing quotes for bids, service contracts and upgrades.
• Provide clients with recommendations and training to improve performance.
• Update troubleshooting guides and engineering records.
• Travel to customer sites for troubleshooting or commissioning ~25% of the time.

In this role, you will be a key technical resource for our clients and internal teams, supporting the design, programming, testing, deployment and ongoing performance of automation solutions for water and wastewater treatment systems. Working closely with project teams, sales, operations, clients and field personnel, you will help ensure our PLC, HMI and SCADA systems operate safely, efficiently and reliably throughout the project lifecycle, while minimizing downtime and driving continuous improvement.This position combines technical problem-solving, system commissioning, and customer support, offering the opportunity to work on a variety of projects.

The Day-to-Day

• Respond to customer support tickets and service requests, acting as the primary technical resource for clients;
• Connect remotely to customer systems to diagnose and resolve automation issues, equipment failures and process interruptions;
• Program, modify, troubleshoot and maintain PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), user graphic interfaces (HMI) and SCADA systems;
• Participate in analyzing user needs and developing programming plans;
• Verify and validate automation changes through testing, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), startup and commissioning activities at our clients' sites;
• Perform upgrades and identify improvements that increase system performance, reliability and equipment uptime;
• Assist our sales team in developing and reviewing quotes for bids, service contracts and automation upgrades;
• Provide clients with recommendations and training to improve system performance and efficiency;
• Update troubleshooting guides, standard operating procedures and engineering records;
• Travel to customer sites for troubleshooting, commissioning or emergency support 25% of the time.

The Skills We Are Looking for

• 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, with a degree in a technical field or equivalent experience;
• Proficiency in PLC, HMI and SCADA programming, development and troubleshooting;
• Thorough understanding of hardware and software upgrade methods for automated systems;
• Competence in planning and executing comprehensive system tests;
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues;
• Ability to write clear technical documents;
• Excellent communication, customer service and training skills;
• Experience with Rockwell Automation, Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar control platforms (an asset);
• Knowledge of industrial networking technologies and communication protocols (an asset);
