Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation & Electrical Specialist to join our Engineering team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of electrical, automation, pneumatic, and robotic systems used in manufacturing operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and other departments to improve equipment reliability, minimize downtime, implement automation improvements, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on automation professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and contributing to the advancement of manufacturing technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, program, troubleshoot, and calibrate industrial automation and electrical systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, safety systems, and robotic controllers.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, automation, pneumatic, and robotic equipment issues using schematics, software diagnostics, technical documentation, and testing equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to reduce equipment downtime and improve reliability.
  • Read, interpret, modify, and maintain electrical, pneumatic, control, and robotic system documentation and schematics.
  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for automation, electrical, and robotic equipment.
  • Support automation projects, including system design, programming, testing, commissioning, and start-up activities.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and optimize industrial robots and robotic systems.
  • Participate in machine safety initiatives, risk assessments, safety circuit validation, and compliance activities.
  • Oversee and verify work completed by contractors and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, software backups, drawings, and maintenance documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance and production teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, productivity, reliability, and safety.
Qualifications
Education
  • College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
  • 5 years of experience in industrial automation, electrical maintenance, controls engineering, or a similar manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills
  • Certification in electrical, automation, or robotics technologies is considered an asset.
  • Strong experience with PLC and HMI platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and Schneider Electric.
  • Experience with industrial communication networks and automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial robotics, including ABB, FANUC, and/or KUKA systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical controls, motor drives, pneumatics, machine safety systems, and industrial automation technologies.
