Job summary

AWC Water Solutions in Langley, BC, is seeking an Automation Technician to join its Controls / Automation Division. The candidate will apply hands-on experience with industrial control systems to support water and wastewater projects.

Key duties include factory acceptance testing, field commissioning, remote technical support, and warranty/technical assistance. Travel up to 10% and collaboration with engineering and fabrication teams are expected.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of automation experience in industrial plants.
• Post-secondary education in Automation & Instrumentation.
• Experience with Rockwell PLCs and FactoryTalk.
• Experience with HMI and SCADA systems.
• Willing to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Supports FAT prior to equipment shipment.

Job description

AWC specializes in providing integrated water, wastewater treatment plants and many other specialized industrial packaged solutions. We offer clients advanced in-house engineering & design with 3D modeling, piloting, fabrication and machining, in-house control panel shop, and a full range of field services, allowing us to provide turn-key solutions.

As our company and backlog expands, we are seeking qualified persons in filling an automation technician position in our Controls / Automation Division. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a level of technical experience in industrial control systems, and hands-on experience.

Main Duties:

• Supports internal Factory Acceptance Testing prior to equipment shipment to site.
• Supports field commissioning and operations of complete water and wastewater systems.
• Field support will require the successful candidate to be willing to travel (less than 10% of their time)
• Provide remote technical support for clients and site operators.
• Act as main contact for warranty and technical support
• Communicates with internal/external key stakeholders (e.g., engineering, fabrication, CAD, consultants, suppliers) to identify and resolve issues pro-actively.
• Delivers exceptional service to clients and on-site partners (e.g., General Contractors, end users)

Secondary Duties:

During periods of low needs for main duties listed above the successful candidate with support the greater automation team with the following:

• Develop the control system design, from the control system design to field instrumentation.
• Total procurement of customer user requirement specifications.
• Evaluating control strategies and suitability to common industrial processes with P&ID
• Evaluating I&C documentation - Control Narrative, RATS List, Cause and Effect Diagram, Serial Interface Lists.
• Designing and implementing multiple-loop control systems.
• PLC programming and calibration of field devices.
• Develops intuitive HMI display graphics and configurations.
• Develop intuitive SCADA / RTU applications including historian / trending and reporting.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience
• Experience in water/wastewater treatment plants, as well as a variety of other turnkey industrial process packages will be an asset.
• Post-secondary education in Automation & Instrumentation
• Needs to demonstrate experience in PLC programming and field service support.
• Experience with a variety of PLCs, preferably with Rockwell ControlLogix and CompactLogix.
• Experience and/or working knowledge with HMIs, preferably FactoryTalk View Studio
• Experience and/or knowledge with SCADA, various VFDs, industrial communications networks
• Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and pride in delivering high quality results.
• Excellent communication (verbal & written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Strong planning and organizational skills, including attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
