Qualifications

  • Experience with PLCs and remote terminal units in field automation.
  • Proficiency in control and automation systems for oil and gas facilities.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving record.

Job description

CDN is a recognized industry leader in the energy services sector. CDN is a full-service provider with expertise in Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance, renewables/solar, major projects, combustion & emissions reduction, and measurement.

We are looking to hire Automation Specialists/Programmers to join our team based out of Calgary and Grande Prairie.

This role is responsible for coordinating, troubleshooting, and implementing control systems, monitoring, and completing commissioning and start-ups on new facilities. Additionally, the Automation Specialist/Programmer will handle the regular maintenance, operation, metering, and safety shutdown of wellsite and plant facilities to prevent equipment failure.

Responsibilities:
  • Design control systems for Compressor Stations and Processing Facilities.
  • Develop software for PLC and DCS systems.
  • Assist with on-site commissioning and startup of new facilities.
  • Develop standards and specifications for Controls and Automation Equipment.
  • Perform complex technical tasks related to control and automation systems.
  • Manage backups of PLC/HMI programs, including 'Asfound' and modified files.
  • Pre-test equipment and software extensively.
  • Work independently when required.
  • Obtain necessary safe work permits.
  • Complete Pre-Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Clarify scope of work with supervisor or client.
  • Communicate with client representatives about work impact on plant operations and safety.
  • Ensure changes affecting control or shutdown operations are documented and approved.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and wiring issues.
  • Coordinate with electricians for voltage-related tasks.
  • Manage pressures in process equipment.
  • Back up all control programs and document changes.
  • Perform testing and startup procedures, ensuring all safety and operational protocols are followed.
  • Finalize work with checks, documentation, and permit return.
Job Requirements:
  • Experience in field automation with PLCs and remote terminal units.
  • Design experience with control and automation systems for oil and gas facilities.
  • Proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC systems, RSLogix, and related software.
  • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and SIL applications.
  • Ability to execute control system integration on complex projects with high customer satisfaction.
  • Strong motivation to improve existing processes and systems.
  • Understanding of complex control systems and potential improvements.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Projects, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing clearance.
  • H2S safety certification.
  • First Aid Level C, CPR & AED certification.
  • eGSO, TDG, and WHMIS training.
