Job summary

Manulife John Hancock in Toronto, Ontario, is seeking an Automation Engineer Co-op for a 12‑month term to Jan 5, 2027–Dec 16, 2027. You will analyze processes, identify automation opportunities, and design, build, test and support automation solutions to reduce manual effort and boost productivity with stakeholders.

We seek students pursuing undergrad degrees in CS/IT/Engineering or related fields, with Power Platform, Power BI, SQL and scripting familiarity.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Technology Management, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Understanding of process improvement, workflow design, business analysis or operational efficiency concepts.
Familiarity with automation and low-code technologies such as Microsoft Power Platform, Power Automate or Power Apps.
Basic knowledge of data analysis and reporting tools such as Excel, Power BI or SQL.
Exposure to programming or scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, PowerShell or similar.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Excellent written, verbal, presentation and collaboration skills.
Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Analyze business and operational processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and automation opportunities.
Document current-state workflows and support the design of future-state automated processes.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and understand operational challenges.
Design, develop, test, and support automation solutions using approved platforms and tools.
Build workflows, integrations, dashboards, and reporting solutions that improve productivity and business outcomes.
Monitor solution performance and identify opportunities for optimisation and enhancement.
Create and maintain process documentation, user guides, and technical documentation.
Support data collection, reporting and analysis efforts to evaluate the impact of automation initiatives.
Research emerging automation, artificial intelligence, and productivity technologies and share recommendations with the team.
Participate in continuous improvement, operational excellence, and digital transformation initiatives across the organisation.
