Job summary

Valmet is seeking an Automation Engineer to support our Engineering Services team across North America, applying PLC/DCS programming and HMI development to ensure equipment performs to specifications. You will participate in customer site start-ups, oversee checkout and commissioning, deliver operator training, and travel as needed to resolve issues and support customers.

A two- or four-year degree in engineering and 3–5 years in papermaking or related fields are required, along with Rockwell

Qualifications

• A two- or four-year degree in Engineering, Papermaking Technology, programming, or a related field.
• Three to five years’ experience in a technical role within the papermaking industry or a related field.
• Understanding of PLC programming with knowledge of Rockwell software.

Responsibilities

• Develop machine code in PLC or DCS systems and HMIs to meet equipment specifications.
• Test software modifications prior to delivery (shop test).
• Lead start-up activities at customer sites, including checkout, commissioning, and training.
• Return visits to site to address warranty issues or customer needs.

As an Automation Engineer at Valmet, you will be part of our Engineering Services team andapply your skills and experiences to support the performance of the large-scale papermaking equipment at our customers facilities across North America.

• Developing the machine code in PLC or DCS systems as well as Human Machine Interface (HMI), software so that equipment functions as specified.
• Testing software modifications to the extent possible prior to delivery (shop test).

You will participate in, or lead start up activities at customer sites which include:

• Checkout of electrical, PLC and HMI portions
• Commissioning of equipment such that specifications are met.
• Deliver technical training to customers' operators and/or maintenance personnel as needed
• Making return trips to the site to eliminate warranty issues or address customer needs

What you'll need

A two or four-year degree in Engineering, Papermaking Technology, programming, or a related field;three to five years’ experience ina technical role within the papermaking industry or a related technical field; or equivalentcombination of education and experience.

Understanding of PLC programming with knowledge of Rockwell software. Knowledge ofpapermaking machinery and hydraulic systems a plus, but not required.
