Job summary

Colt Automation in Mississauga, ON is seeking an Automation Controls Specialist to lead controls architecture, programming, and commissioning for large machines and production lines. You will design and implement servo, hydraulic, and pneumatic control systems while collaborating with a cross‑functional engineering team.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 5–7 years of industry experience, and strong PLC/SCADA/HMI skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of direct experience with industrial device integration.
  • Proven PLC programming, SCADA/HMI design, and servo commissioning experience.
  • Strong English communication and plant-environment exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in controls architecture, programming, and commissioning for large machines and lines.
  • Program control systems for servo, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, plus tests.
  • Ensure electrical designs are robust, functional, and cost-effective.
  • Lead cross-functional team reviews, installations, and service calls as needed.

Salary: $80,000 -$85,000 based on Experience & Education
Location: Mississauga, ON
Job Type: Full-Time
Travel: Some local & International Travel required. (Canada, US, Mexico)

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in controls architecture, programming, and commissioning for large single machines, feed lines, and broader engineering team projects.
  • Program control systems for servo, hydraulic, and pneumatic operated equipment, along with test and electrical devices.
  • Ensure electrical designs are functional, robust, and cost-effective.
  • Maintain project scope and proactively identify scope creep.
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls as needed.
  • Lead and collaborate effectively within a cross‑functional team environment.
  • Communicate clearly through strong technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering
Experience
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of directly related experience, with a technical understanding of integrating industrial devices.
  • Experience with off-site installation and commissioning, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven experience with PLC programming, SCADA/HMI design, and servo control system commissioning.
  • Previous experience in a plant environment is an asset.
  • Strong English communication skills.
Software Application Knowledge
  • Proficiency with PLC and HMI development software such as Allen-Bradley RS Logix, Siemens, Schneider, Omron, or Bosch platforms.
  • Experience with schematic design tools and CAD environments such as AutoCAD or Inventor.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with PLCs, HMIs, and servo control systems.
