Role Overview

Our client seeks a dynamic and experienced Automation & Robotics Controls Manager to lead the automation, controls, programming, and robotics teams. The role involves designing, developing, and implementing advanced control systems and robotic solutions for automated machinery. It requires technical expertise in controls and robotics, along with leadership and project management skills. The manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality project delivery within time and budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage automation, controls, programming, and robotics teams, fostering a positive environment.
  • Oversee design, programming, and integration of control and robotic systems, including PLCs, HMIs, multi-axis robots, and cobots.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring successful automation project execution.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering, software development, and other stakeholders for integration.
  • Mentor and evaluate team members, promoting technical excellence.
  • Troubleshoot and perform technical adjustments for automated equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards (e.g., CE, CSA, ISO).
  • Engage with clients, providing technical support and meeting their automation needs.
  • Evaluate and improve automation processes and team performance, driving innovation.
  • Support system commissioning and troubleshooting, including on-site installations.
  • Assist with onboarding, health and safety protocols, and performance tracking.
  • Create and enforce standards and guidelines for the automation team.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, or related fields.
  • 7+ years in controls engineering, automation, and robotics, with 4+ years in management.
  • Background in integration experience.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, robotic programming (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), and motion control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with robot integration, multi-axis robotic arms, and vision systems.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet) and safety standards.
  • Experience managing multiple projects in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and team management skills.
