Job summary

Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is seeking a Swim Coach to lead skill development for participants across Fraser Valley locations. You will implement CAN curriculum and foster a positive, fun learning environment for autistic individuals.

Under the direction of Onsite Supervisors, coaches guide Support Workers and Volunteers, receive in-house training, and work with small class sizes to ensure safety and progress.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Minimum 1 year coaching children/youth sport(s) and/or leading group activities in a recreational setting.
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification (at minimum).
• Able to provide references and a clear criminal record check.
• Comfortable at all pool depths.

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver organized lesson plans matching the program curriculum.
• Use autism-informed coaching methods and adapt activities to support different abilities and sensory needs.
• Create a positive, supportive learning environment.
• Lead and supervise participants with supervision from onsite staff.
• Ensure sessions run smoothly with setup and cleanup and start/end on time.
• Assess swimming skills and complete participant report cards.
• Provide clear instructions and support to Support Workers and Volunteers.
• Collaborate with Onsite Supervisor to meet participant needs and staff expectations.
• Share lesson plans with staff ahead of time and assign meaningful roles to volunteers.
