Qualifications

The opportunity

The University of Manitoba is looking an Athletic Therapist in Bison Sports. The position is part of the Bison Integrate Support Team which provides direct service to varsity athletes and Bison sports teams in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of injuries and injury prevention. The position also supports the undergraduate athletic therapy degree program through student practicum supervision and mentorship.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in an Athletic Therapy program at one of nine CATA-accredited institutions in Canada; or equivalent from a recognized program outside Canada required.
  • Certified and member in good standing of Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) required.
  • Current certification in Basic Rescuer CPR, Standard First Aid, Trauma & Assessment Management (ie Basics Trauma & Life Support, First Responder) and AED required.
  • Minimum five years directly related work experience in a clinical and field setting assessing sport-related injuries and implementing treatment programs required.
  • Must be a Supervisory Athletic Therapist registered with CATA
  • Experience with a patient management software system preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary environment would be considered as asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be able to conduct assessments of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, plan and implement appropriate treatment/rehabilitation programs.
  • Must have strong analytical skills, keen observational skills and manual therapy techniques (ie. orthopedic physical assessment, massage, joint manipulation, sport-specific reconditioning).
  • Must have strong communication skills - both written and verbal, problem-solving abilities, conscientious work habits, high degree of integrity and accuracy, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts is required.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude, strong customer service philosophy, and a willingness to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment required.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software required.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, open-mindedness, and flexibility required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
