Overall Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Director of Sales, the Associate Key Account Manager (AKAM) is responsible for supporting the planning and the achievement of volume, distribution and merchandising objectives for Costco initiatives. The AKAM will gain valuable experience and exposure to business development by working alongside the National Account Manager (NAM).

Operating with a "General Manager" mindset, they cultivate and enhance relationships, ensuring alignment between accounting needs and overall business objectives. The AKAM collaborates with cross-functional teams to align and execute key account plans and shares responsibility for Profit and Loss (P&L) and Annual Operating Plan (AOP). This comprehensive approach ensures that the key account team operates cohesively, driven by a shared commitment to excellence and alignment with Jamieson's principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director/NAM to build and implement full year customer plans to achieve KPI targets (Gross Sales, Net Sales, Distribution) in addition of preparation of negotiations and the development of selling stories for customer meetings.
  • Drive profitable revenue growth with Costco through influencing channel and BU strategies and relationship management, identifying and initiating sales opportunities outside of plan.
  • Stay informed and use market research and analyze data related to market trends, customer behavior, and competitive activities to provide insights and opportunities to help optimize sales strategies and achieve/exceed sales targets.
  • Lead in daily administrative activities (deal sheets, activity grids, AFS promotion/trade spend logging, forecasting) including the investigation of post audits and short pay items.
  • Establish a strong network with key internal and external stakeholders tracking projects ensuring key timing is achieved.
  • Support the development and execute account plans and forecasts for Costco Canada aligned with the organization's financial goals and objectives by establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Take ownership of the current year operating plan (AOP) for the account to ensure exceptional execution while prioritizing profitability. Allocate resources strategically to support account-specific sales activities in alignment with return on investment (ROI) goals.
  • Foster transparent and integrity-based relationships with the account while maintaining the authenticity of the brand, even if it means declining certain requests.
  • Support with the development of the annual operating plan (AOP) for the account and lead negotiations to secure favorable terms, pricing, and contracts. Ensure agreements are compliant and mutually beneficial, pursuant to the above.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements

  • College or University Diploma/Degree
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Sales Experience of 3+ years in sales, account management or business development
  • Remote role with occasional travel
  • Category Management experience an asset
  • Proven ability to work independently, and on own initiatives
  • Collaborative, multi-tasking, ability to build a relationship with a variety of people
  • Organized and able to make an independent decision
  • Driver’s License and able to travel to make customer visits and meetings
  • Able to handle stock, loading and unloading vehicle (approximately 30 lbs. at a time)
