Associate Director, Counterparty Credit Risk

Job Summary

Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) provides risk oversight of RBC’s trading activities including (but not limited to) counterparty exposure measurement and monitoring, bespoke transaction adjudication and approval, portfolio risk analysis, and reporting.

What is the opportunity?

As part of the CCR Analysis and Measurement (CCRAM) team, you will support sizing and risk analysis for new business, bespoke transactions, ad hoc requests, and non-standard trading for Derivatives and Securities Finance Transactions (SFT). Your role includes identifying key risks, developing credit policies and limits, and supporting risk oversight of RBC’s trading activities.

What will you do?

  • Proactively investigate risks and conduct deep dives into counterparty analysis to provide clear, comprehensive risk trend reports to senior management.
  • Review and assess new products, trading strategies, or significant transactions to ensure risks align with risk appetite, and recommend appropriate risk controls.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of credit policies and limits, ensuring clarity and currency in collaboration with risk teams and business partners.
  • Collaborate with the GRM Credit team to review credit risk appetite and facilitate business activities with proper risk controls.
  • Maintain close communication with business units, regional risk teams, and Group Risk Management to stay informed on market conditions, risk positions, and new initiatives.
  • Drive innovation in risk analytics infrastructure by working with business, IT, and Global Risk Analytics teams to enhance methodologies, models, and tools.
  • Develop and code tools to automate and standardize risk measurement and analytics processes.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • An MBA, MA, MS, or equivalent with a focus on finance, economics, or a quantitative discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a quantitative Risk Control function within a financial institution, understanding capital markets trading products and credit risk concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more coding languages.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with Excel, Python, VBA, SQL, or similar programming languages.
  • Knowledge of capital markets derivatives and cash products risk profiles.
  • Familiarity with CIRO dealer margin rules.
  • Professional certifications such as FRM, PRMIA, or CFA.
