The Position
Holland Bloorview’s Clinical Brain Computer Interface (BCI) program strives to provide children and youth with disabilities access to high quality, BCI-enabled recreation and play opportunities. The Clinical BCI team consists of occupational therapists and therapeutic recreation specialists from Holland Bloorview and engineers, research coordinators, and research assistants from the Bloorview Research Institute. An Assistive Technology Consultant (ATC) is an individual who has acquired the education and training necessary to provide the appropriate consultation and support to clients to maximize their use of access technologies. These skills include an expertise in computer hardware and software, an understanding of programming, and an in‑depth technical understanding of the operation of hardware and peripherals.
The ATC role in the Clinical BCI program is to ensure the proper function of BCI headsets, computers, and outputs (video games, switch toys, etc.) and be able to provide training instructions to families with varying knowledge of technology. Applicants must be comfortable learning novel technology systems, including setting customizations and hardware optimizations; have an interest in access technologies; be able to collaborate with children, youth, families, clinicians, and researchers; be able to problem solve; and have the willingness and ability to learn.
