Job summary

CIBC Mellon is seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President, Fund Accounting Administration in Toronto to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Fund Accounting Administration function. You will partner with senior leaders to set priorities, optimize resources, and deliver on complex initiatives that support growth, governance, and client service excellence.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial services, fund accounting, operations, or business management roles, including significant leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting administration processes, operating models, and related business interdependencies.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives, business planning, and cross-functional planning within a complex environment.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills across senior leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.

Position Overview

Reporting into the Vice President, Head of Fund Accounting and Fund Administration the Assistant Vice President, Fund Accounting Administration provides strategic and operational leadership across the Fund Accounting Administration function, with accountability for driving key business initiatives, overseeing resource planning, and supporting the delivery of new business and ongoing operational priorities. Partners closely with the Head of Fund Accounting Administration and other senior leaders to establish departmental priorities, optimize resource alignment, and ensure execution against business objectives, financial targets, and client service expectations. Leads cross-functional initiatives, strengthens operational effectiveness, and oversees business management activities that support scalable growth, governance, and service excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Head of Fund Accounting Administration to shape and execute the department’s strategic priorities, business plans, and operational objectives in support of organizational growth and client service excellence.
  • Lead the assessment of key business and operational requirements and establish initiatives, programs, and priorities that enhance service delivery, improve scalability, and support new business growth.
  • Provide leadership over the development, implementation, and monitoring of service performance standards, identifying opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, operational efficiency, and revenue enhancement.
  • Oversee strategic resource planning activities for new and existing business, including assessment of business-as-usual and onboarding resource requirements, to ensure appropriate capacity and support sustainable growth.
  • Lead resource assessment and planning activities with BNY and other key partners to align operating model requirements, onboarding support, and ongoing service delivery expectations.
  • Own the maintenance and oversight of unit cost methodologies and client allocation models across the department, ensuring consistency, transparency, and alignment with financial and business objectives.
  • Partner with Finance and Revenue Governance to identify, assess, and address potential fee revenue leakage, and lead fund accounting efforts to support effective communication, escalation, and resolution workflows.
  • Lead and oversee cross-functional initiatives across the department, ensuring alignment of priorities, accountability for deliverables, and timely execution of key business outcomes.
  • Provide leadership to teams of analysts supporting departmental initiatives, including direction-setting, prioritization, coaching, development, and performance oversight.
  • Oversee talent and workforce management activities across the function, including recruitment, development, performance management, retention, succession planning, and organizational design, in partnership with area managers.
  • Foster a high-performance culture that promotes collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
  • Serve as a senior operational leader for the function, ensuring departmental objectives are achieved, issues are addressed proactively, and resources are aligned effectively to meet business needs.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental goals, financial plans, and annual budgets, and maintain accountability for managing the function within approved budget parameters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and business partners to ensure service expectations are met, issues are resolved effectively, and opportunities for improvement and growth are identified.
  • Maintain deep expertise in fund accounting administration workflows, business processes, and operational interdependencies, and use that knowledge to inform strategic planning and execution.
  • Provide strategic business management reporting and insights to support senior leadership decision-making, prioritization, and execution of departmental objectives.
  • Identify operational risks, capacity constraints, and process gaps, and lead mitigation strategies to support control effectiveness and service continuity.
  • Drive continuous improvement across departmental processes, operating models, and resource allocation practices to enhance efficiency, scalability, and client outcomes.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial services, fund accounting, operations, or business management roles, including significant leadership experience.
Specific Knowledge & Skills (not Preferred Or An Asset)
  • Demonstrated experience leading strategic initiatives, business planning, and resource management within a complex operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting administration processes, operating models, client servicing frameworks, and related business interdependencies.
  • Proven ability to assess resource requirements and cost structures for new business initiatives, including business-as-usual and onboarding models.
  • Experience managing or influencing cross-functional planning across internal teams and external partners.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with budget management, cost allocation methodologies, and revenue or expense analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Finance, Revenue Governance, and senior business leaders on financial analysis, revenue assurance, and business performance matters.
  • Proven people leadership skills, including experience leading teams, developing talent, and driving performance in a high-accountability environment.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across senior levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Standard office environment, with periodic peak workloads during month-end and year-end that may require additional focus and flexibility to meet deadlines.
