Job summary

Axiom Builders is expanding in Victoria and is seeking multiple Assistant Superintendents to support the Superintendent and project team on a large waterfront community development. You will help plan and implement construction schedules, determine labour levels, manage materials, and ensure the field team has tools and resources for effective work.

Qualifications

• Experience leading on-site teams on multi-family residential projects.
• Ability to plan and implement construction schedules and labour levels.
• Strong focus on safety and ability to promote safety initiatives on site.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting structural drawings and construction documents.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Superintendent in managing on-site work to align with drawings and specifications.
• Support contracting, subcontracts, purchase orders, site instructions and change notices.
• Identify design and schedule issues and collaborate with the Project Manager to resolve them.
• Engage professionally with designers, consultants, clients and stakeholders.
• Monitor subcontractor performance with respect to safety and scope of work.
• Ensure adequate labour resources to meet safety, schedule and quality objectives.
• Maintain daily field reports, inspections, schedules and construction documentation.
• Build strong relationships with trade partners to maximize long-term value.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies by all workers on site.

Job description

Axiom Builders is continuing to expand in Victoria with the addition of a 4 building, 300+ unit waterfront community. We are hiring multiple Assistant Superintendents to support the Superintendent and project team in directing and coordinating construction site. The successful candidate will work with construction leaders to plan and implement schedules, determine labour levels, material quantities and ensure the field team has all the tools and resources they need to be effective. As one of the leaders on site, the Assistant Superintendent will champion and promote safety initiatives in partnership with our CSO and safety team and ensure safety is top of mind for everyone on the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Superintendent in managing work on site to ensure the compliance of construction drawings and specifications;


• Support with administering contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, site instructions and change notices to ensure scopes, terms and conditions are properly executed;


• Identify and advise of design deficiencies, schedule interruptions or difficulties, and other project issues, working collaboratively with Project Manager to resolve issues;


• Engage professionally with the design professionals, consultants, clients and other internal and external stakeholders;


• Monitor and evaluate subcontractor performance with regards to safety and scope of work;


• Ensure sufficient labour resources are provided to achieve safety, schedule and quality objectives;


• Maintain daily field reports, safety inspections, schedule updates and other construction documentation;


• Establish and maintain strong relationships with our key trade partners, operating in a true win-win scenario focusing on long-term value;


• Ensure all employees, subcontractors and contractors are adhering to the company safety policies.

Skills & Experience

• Four to five (4-5) years of experience working on multi-family residential projects with a sub-trade or general contractor;


• Experience leading people on-site, ideally as a Trade Foreman or Assistant Superintendent;


• Solid history of seeing a construction project from preconstruction to project completion;


• Proficiency in reviewing structural drawings, blueprints and construction documents;


• Strong ability and proven experience to work effectively with a site crew of various sizes;


• Able and willing to spend your day on your feet with multiple site walks daily;


• Red Seal Carpentry ticket or construction related education will be considered an asset;
