Job summary

Westview Projects, headquartered in Ottawa, seeks an experienced Assistant Superintendent to lead field operations on construction projects in Eastern Ontario. Reporting to the Superintendent, you will oversee on-site activities, ensure plans and schedules are followed, and drive project execution within budget.

You will collaborate with Senior Superintendents, field engineers, coordinators, and trades to maintain progress, quality, and safety across the jobsite, while building project

Qualifications

• Journeyman certificate or related diploma required.
• Minimum 5 years of construction experience.
• High-rise residential experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Oversee on-site construction activities and ensure adherence to project plans and schedules.
• Coordinate with Senior Superintendents, engineers, inspectors and trades to maintain progress and quality.
• Lead site meetings with consultants, trades, and internal teams.
• Maintain Daily Job Diary and 3-week look-ahead schedules.
• Monitor safety programs and ensure compliance with Westview's safety policies.
• Assist in budget tracking, procurement estimates, and resolving schedule conflicts.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $120,000 per annum

Westview Projects is a general contracting company that operates in Eastern Ontario. Headquartered in Ottawa, Westview Projects specializes in offering construction management services to institutional, commercial, multi-residential and retail clients.

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is responsible for all field operations required to construct the project which includes overseeing all on-site construction activities, ensuring that project plans and schedules are followed, and that the project is executed effectively and within budget.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Help create, maintain, and execute project plan and schedule and ensure compliance with budget
• Supervise and coordinate all construction activities
• Work with Senior Superintendents, Superintendents, Coordinators, Field Engineers, Surveyors, Students, hourly Foremen and hourly staff assigned to a project
• Create site-specific plans and procedures; ensure the implementation of Westview's Safety Program to create a safe work environment throughout the jobsite; adhere to safety and record-keeping requirements.
• Ensure project materials and workmanship meets project quality standards and design requirements
• Assist with obtaining necessary information from engineers, designers, inspectors, municipal/provincial authorities and and owners
• Resolve and advise senior management of potential problems, work interferences or schedule difficulties while assisting in circumventing/resolving such conflicts; anticipate and resolve project issues and schedule difficulties.
• Lead Sub-Trade meetings and update meetings for clear communication
• Maintain the project's Daily Job Diary; maintain a 3-week look ahead schedule
• Take on management of projects, become acquainted with the project cycle and build project management skills:
  • Monitor project financial performances, schedule, costs, equipment, manpower, materials, equipment maintenance, safety of environment and quality control
  • Build project schedule to align with the critical path
  • Complete material take-offs and get required estimates for procurement
• Other duties as required

Qualifications

• Journeyman certificate or post-secondary diploma/degree in related field
• Minimum 5 years’ progressive construction-related experience.
• High-rise residential construction experience considered an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of the construction industry operations, construction specifications, building materials, methods and procedures
• Ability to lead and assess trade performance on the job through productivity tracking and clear communication
• Ability to visualize and create the project schedules critical path
• Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with consultants, trades, and internal employees
• Coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, track productivities and schedule work in an effective manner
• Experience applying basic engineering principles to construction challenges.
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (excel, word, outlook etc.)
• In depth understanding of safety and environmental principles, ability to develop procedures with a clear understanding of the legislation.
