Job description

The Assistant Store Manager isa key position within the store environment and performs a wide variety ofduties under the direction of the Store Manager. In the absence of the StoreManager, performs the duties of the Store Manager. This includes supervisingstaff, store presentation, merchandising and inventory rotation, customerservice, store sales, and store administration. This hands-on position trainsand supervises store associates and ensures a safe and healthy workenvironment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervisory and Team

• Foster a positiveworkplace and team environment through open communication
• Motivate and inspire store associates
• Cross-train store associates and volunteers to do various jobs withinthe thrift store
• Provide ongoing training, feedback and performance reviews for storeassociates
• Provide leadership through modeling appropriate behaviour
• Learn all job functions of the store and cover off for various roleswhen required.
• Respect and comply with all WINS policies and procedures, ensuring thatemployees are aware of, and comply with, policies
• Use appropriate discipline when required, as per WINS’ policies
• Attend and participate in regular staff meetings, communicating relevantevents to the store associates

Store Presentation andMerchandising

• Ensure a clean andorganized store
• Ensure stock is rotated regularly and merchandise is organized anddisplayed to maximize sales
• Operate the store to maximize product on the sales floor
• Learn and train staff on product knowledge and merchandising
• Ensure consistent and quality sorting and pricing of donations

Store Sales and Profitability

• Ensure product pricingrepresents fair market value
• Build awareness of WINS and positive relationships with residents,businesses, and organizations in the neighborhood

Customer Service

• Set example in customerservice for employees, welcoming and responding to customers in a courteous andhelpful manner
• Ensure customer concerns are addressed in a timely and professionalmanner
• Create a non-judgmental and supportive environment for WINS referralclients and customers

Store Administration

• Maintain cash handlingprocedures and standards to record, balance, and deposit daily sales, reportand document any variances in cash
• Order supplies and maintain appropriate supply levels

Health, Safety, and Security

• Ensure and maintain asafe working environment for employees in the store
• Report any workplace incidents on a timely basis
• Secure store premises on a daily basis
• Ensure donations and garbage left outside store premises are picked upin a timely manner
• Ensure that loss prevention processes and policies are consistentlyimplemented
