Job Description
This position is responsible for assisting the Store Manager in the day-to-day operation and management of the assigned store. The duties performed must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers, and suppliers, in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.
- Provide superior customer service supporting Farm Boy's vision of the best fresh shopping experience.
- Collaborate with Store Manager, Department Managers, and Retail Specialists to execute strategies aimed at achieving financial and operational goals.
- Maintain consistent and effective communication, including coaching, team huddles, sharing metrics, product knowledge, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Participate in team development activities such as interviewing, training, performance reviews, coaching, motivation, and recognition, while maintaining confidentiality and trust.
- Promote and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and HR directives.
- Assist in implementing health and safety programs, and act on recommendations from the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Engage in community events to promote Farm Boy’s community presence.
- Support store operations including inventory management, ordering, merchandising, invoicing, scheduling, and payroll.
- Ensure store security, proper opening and closing procedures, and respond to emergencies or after-hours alarms.
- Maintain financial records, manage cash handling, oversee refunds, and ensure accurate reporting and documentation.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Typically requires post-secondary education in business, with 5-7 years of progressive managerial experience in retail, preferably in the perishable food industry, or equivalent education and experience.
- Successful completion or willingness to complete within 6 months: Public Health Food Handler certification, Smart Serve, Level A First Aid, and CPR certification.
- Strong knowledge of the retail industry, food products, and quality standards.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining priorities.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Proven team-building and team participation skills.
- Ability to learn manual and automated systems/tools.
- Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office.
- Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Fluency in English; French is an asset.
Work & Sensory Environment
- Provide service to multiple departments, working under multiple deadlines.
- Stand and walk for extended periods during shifts.
- Lift, carry, or handle heavy objects as required.
