The School of Health Studies invites applications from exceptional scholars for anappointment at the rank of Assistant

Professor, Limited-Term (two-years). The School of Health Studies , o ne of seven schools in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), is home to a large undergraduate Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) program, and contributes to the Faculty wide Health & Rehabilitation Sciences graduate program and the Advanced Health Care Practice g raduate program and the Interfaculty Program in Public Health .

The School of Health Studies is a leader in impactful interdisciplinary and international research, education and knowledge mobilization regarding health and wellbeing. Our mission is to nurture the creativity and critical thinking of tomorrow’s global leaders in health and wellbeing. Our innovative research programs address health and wellbeing across the life course including marginalized populations. Our undergraduate BHSc curriculum provides students with foundational and specialized training in the six dimensions of health (personal, mental, interpersonal, ecological, sociocultural, sociopolitical) studied through the lens of equity and social justice. The interdisciplinary focus of the School of Health Studies is unique in FHS making it an ideal place to examine rapidly evolving health environments and diverse health-related experiences. We are engaged in research and scholarly activity in areas such as health promotion, health policy, public health, law, health equity and sustainability, and digital health.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to contribute to a diverse academic community and the School of Health Studies Strategic Plan. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in the area of health sciences (e.g., health sciences, public health, bioethics, social epidemiology, health promotion, kinesiology, etc.) The successful candidate will be required to teach a range of courses that fall within the Six Dimensions of Health and Wellbeing . Although not a requirement, an interest in artificial intelligence and / or indigenous health would be advantageous. The position will have a workload of

70% Teaching, 10% Research, and 20% Service. Successful candidates will have opportunities tocollaborate with FHS’s research Centres and Institutes(e.g. Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging , Centre for Research on Health Equity and Social Inclusion and the Rotman Institute of Philosophy ) . Applicants must becommittedtoprovidinghigh quality, innovative and contemporary teaching and mentoring at graduate and undergraduate levels, inlinewith Western’s Data Strategy a s well as its Indigenous Strategic Plan.

The effective date of this appointment is August 1, 2025, or as negotiated. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
