Job summary

Bunge in Fort St. John, BC is seeking a seasoned supervisor for grain handling, storage, and shipping. You will lead staff, ensure quality and compliance, and coordinate with maintenance and logistics to meet customer requirements.

The role requires a minimum of four years in supervision, an Agri-Business degree or equivalent, and strong knowledge of grain regulations. WHMIS/TDG certs and excellent interpersonal skills are essential.

  • Minimum four (4) years of related supervisory experience.
  • Post-secondary degree in Agri-Business or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grain regulations and policies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for internal/external relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize staff activities.
  • WHMIS and TDG certification required.
  • Physical ability to perform duties in a grain elevator environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise receiving, cleaning, drying, storing and shipping of facility products.
  • Assign duties to staff and monitor results; provide input to performance reviews.
  • Ensure products meet end-user specifications and quality controls.
  • Maintain inventory and communication with Logistics to meet shipping requirements.
  • Promote strong customer relations and ensure high service levels on shipments.
  • Coordinate operations with maintenance to optimize results and costs.
  • Cross-train staff to cover absences and maintain efficiency.
  • Ensure ISO/HACCP program compliance and safety standards.
  • Perform regular housekeeping and inspections; maintain samples of inventories.
  • Support and participate in process improvements for efficiency and profitability.

A Day in the Life:
  • Supervises and participates in the receiving, cleaning, drying, storing and shipping of all facility products.
  • Supervises and assigns duties to staff and monitors work results to ensure the timely and efficient completion of assignments. Provides input to employee performance reviews.
  • Monitors the condition of products to ensure they meet end-user specifications.
  • Maintains an up-to-date understanding of end-user requirements in order to ensure product meets the required specifications.
  • Maintains processing and warehousing standards to ensure compliance with quality controls.
  • Monitors facility and processing costs, and recommends improvements to increase operating efficiencies and profitability.
  • Maintains regular communication with Logistics staff to ensure that appropriate inventories are on hand to meet end-user shipping requirements.
  • Maintains samples of processed grain inventories.
  • Meets facility housekeeping and maintenance performance standards and conducting regular housekeeping inspections.
  • Co-ordinates facility operations with maintenance staff to optimize operating results.
  • Performs inventory checks to ensure the proper warehousing and maintenance of product.
  • Promotes strong customer relations by maintaining a high level of service and ensuring the quality of all shipments.
  • Performs the responsibilities of other operational positions during staff absences in order to optimize the efficiency of the operations requiring cross training in various roles and functions.
  • Ensures compliance with ISO/HACCP program requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Minimum of four (4) years or related supervisory experience.
  • Post-secondary degree in Agri-Business.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge, skill and competence will be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grain regulations and policies.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and organize staff activities.
  • Requires Workplace Hazardous Materials Inventory System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification.
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties of the role within a grain elevator environment including good eyesight and color perception.
