The Critical Care unit at the Grey Nuns Hospital is a fast-paced, dynamic unit with a welcoming interdisciplinary team who provide exemplary care to the critically ill patient. Critical Care at this site includes the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The Grey Nuns Hospital is also the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre which specializes in vascular surgery and the ICU provides support for these complex vascular patients that may require ICU post operatively. The Critical Care Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) leads the frontline team in providing safe and competent care for patients using critical care knowledge and principles of family centered care. The AHN maintains a high degree of professionalism and works with the interdisciplinary team to determine patient needs and set priorities.

Description
Description: The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership, functional supervision and, as needed, performs front line Registered Nursing duties. The AHN promotes and models leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, and developing and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice. The AHN fosters team effectiveness, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, communicating effectively and seeking to resolve staff issues. The AHN develops a supportive environment for multidisciplinary learning. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.
