As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the Assistant Head Nurse – NICU is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for NICU patients in a tertiary level unit. The AHN assumes responsibility and acts as a resource for skills assessment, staff development, equipment maintenance, and daily operations. The AHN refers issues of a financial or human resource nature to the unit manager for their guidance or resolution. The AHN acts as a resource and mentor to all nursing staff, facilitating staff development and identification of staff education needs. The AHN recognizes the value of and works with a family centered care philosophy.
Description:As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to work independently and effectively in a multidisciplinary setting. Excellent collaboration, communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills and abilities. Candidates must be highly motivated and self-directed. NICU, ICN, PICU, ICU, PCICU, Peds ER, Labor & Delivery experience preferred, acute care experience considered.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 5 years current level III experience required. Two years related supervisory, or leadership experience preferred. Current experience at the DS NICU and NRP certification.
