Job summary

Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority in Selkirk is seeking an Assistant Cook to support the Food Services department. Under the supervision of the Manager, Support Services and Cook, you will prepare and serve regular, therapeutic, and texture-modified meals for patients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Duties include receiving, portion control, maintaining hygiene, and delivering courteous customer service.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 11 education required.
• Knowledge in therapeutic diets and texture modification.
• Minimum of three years commercial food services experience, preferably in a health care setting and/or experience in quantity cooking.
• Ability to operate required equipment.
• Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
• Ability to perform physical and mental aspects of the position.
• Satisfactory employment record.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, serve, and portion meals for patients/residents, staff, volunteers, Meals on Wheels, Supportive Housing, Adult Day, visitors, and catering.
• Maintain high standards of safety and sanitation in all duties.
• Provide courteous and effective customer service as part of the role.
