Job summary

Cogir Senior Living in Oakville, Ontario, is seeking an Assistant Cook to support the Cook in preparing and delivering meals for residents, guests and staff.

The role requires a Food Handler’s Certificate, experience in large-quantity cooking (preferably in healthcare), knowledge of therapeutic diets, and the ability to work safely and efficiently. A Vulnerable Sector Check is required, and bilingual abilities are an asset.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate.
• Red Seal Certificate preferred.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, healthcare or retirement setting.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
• Knowledge of special and therapeutic diets.
• Physical ability to lift and stand for long shifts.
• Second language is an asset.
• Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain) within six months.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver all foods for residents, guests and employees.
• Review menus and production sheets and prepare meals accordingly.
• Ensure proper food handling techniques.
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridge, freezers and storerooms.
• Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic diets per planned menus.
• Assist in serving meals according to residents' diets and preferences.
• Follow daily production charts and recipes within budget.
• Assist in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies.
• Participate in special occasion and theme meal planning.
• Attend department and facility trainings and staff meetings.
