Job description

LGM is a national leader in providing warranty, finance, and insurance services to the Canadian automotive industry. Our partnerships are supported by the strong backing of renowned automotive manufacturing brands, including BMW / MINI, Kia, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar / Land Rover, Mitsubishi Motors, Polestar, and Motorrad.

The Assistant Controller is responsible for compiling, communicating, and reporting corporate financial information to both internal and external stakeholders. The Assistant Controller also guides and manages the Corporate Accounting Team through effective execution of cash management, budgeting, audits, financial reporting, and investment management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead, motivate, and coach the Corporate Accounting team to effectively deliver services related to this position.
  2. Manage performance, foster collaboration, and proactively plan the direction of the team.
  3. Work with direct reports to establish performance goals and monitor progress to support professional development.
  4. Handle personnel situations with discretion and candor.
  5. Manage hiring, terminations, and performance evaluations for team members.
  6. Improve accounting and financial processes, controls, and develop the team to achieve best practices, efficiency, and risk mitigation.
  7. Provide oversight of cash management, investments, and reconciliations of balance sheet and profit and loss accounts.
  8. Ensure quarterly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts within scope of role.
  9. Oversee or prepare financial reports, tax remittances, and account variance analyses.
  10. Distribute monthly financial reports to management and external parties.
  11. Oversee monthly journal entries.
  12. Lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and analysis of actual results.
  13. Lead the preparation of working papers for audits.
  14. Manage the accounting system and general ledger coding.
  15. Support finance projects and other related tasks as needed.
  16. Participate in training for backup coverage of responsibilities.
  17. Manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.
