Assistant Controller
You will work directly under the leadership of the Controller to mentor and support the accounting team. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for servicing our multifamily, Texas, and investment companies. The main role of the Assistant Controller is to review the work of the accounting team, prepare and review reconciliations and working papers to support the financial reporting function, and lead initiatives to help achieve our finance strategic goals.

What You Will Do
- Manage the financial reporting function to ensure all internal and external reports are complete, accurate, and timely.
- Lead a team of accountants responsible for month-end and year-end activities and reporting.
- Review month-end journal entries and working papers for investment companies.
- Review overhead reporting with managers.
- Review bank reporting, draw, and loan reports.
- Review GST, bank reconciliations, and financial packages.
- Develop, document, and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Assist the Controller in preparing annual divisional budgets.
- Prepare monthly and annual forecasts and variance analyses.
- Develop templates to forecast and monitor Key Performance Indicators.
- Review gross margin analysis and reporting.
- Handle complex transactions to document and complete journal entries.
- Review staff journal entries and reconciliations, providing feedback or assistance as needed.
- Work closely with staff and management to build strong relationships, optimize productivity, and manage priorities.
- Manage and execute strategic annual projects.
- Provide insights into financial performance and trends to support strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with operational departments to ensure financial reporting meets user needs.
- Perform ad hoc reporting as required.
Your Qualifications – The Must Have’s
- CPA Designation is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, and evaluate team members.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, lead strategic initiatives, and resolve issues with support from the Controller.
Additional Skills – The Nice To Have’s
- Experience leading system changes and implementations.
- Experience filing tax returns and handling tax-related transactions.
- Experience with multi-family residential buildings and general contractor work.
