Job summary

YESAB’s Whitehorse Designated Office seeks an Assessment District Manager to lead projects across the Whitehorse district and coordinate with federal, territorial and First Nations partners. This permanent role requires strong oversight and stakeholder engagement to ensure transparent environmental assessments in the Yukon.

Assessment District Manager Whitehorse Designated Office Full-time, permanent, working 75 hours bi-weekly $106,832.78 - $137,566.42 A hiring preference will apply for qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with a priority for qualified Yukon First Nation candidates.

What’s YESAB?
The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) is an independent body established under the Umbrella Final Agreement and YESAA legislation in 2003. YESAB conducts environmental and socio-economic assessments of projects before they are approved by the governing body.
Our purpose is to conduct neutral assessments in the Yukon that contribute to protecting the environment and social, economic, and cultural well-being of First Nations and residents.

• General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nations Agreements, is required.
• Experience working in a First Nation government is considered an asset.
• Experience in fostering relationships with stakeholders of varying viewpoints, experiences and expectations.
• Relevant work experience or an undergraduate degree and/or post-secondary training in environmental science, social science or a similar field of study is preferred.
• Experience managing multiple complex projects with completing timelines is required.
• Experience supervising a team is required.

The Assessment District Manager , reporting to the Assessment Director, will be a part of the Whitehorse Designated Office, as well as YESAB’s management team. The Assessment District Manager is responsible for:

• Managing and supporting all projects assessed in the Whitehorse Assessment District.
• Maintaining relationships with proponents, Government of Canada, First Nations and Yukon Government.
• Ensuring that participants understand the assessment review process and how to best participate in that process
• Managing the operations of the Designated Office and providing support, guidance, and supervision to staff.
