Job summary

Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) is seeking an Assessment District Manager for the Whitehorse Designated Office. This full-time, permanent role oversees projects and manages relationships with proponents, federal and territorial governments, and Yukon First Nations.

You will lead staff, ensure clear participation in the assessment process, and supervise multiple complex initiatives with strict timelines.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act and Yukon First Nations Agreements is required.
  • Experience working in a First Nation government is considered an asset.
  • Experience fostering relationships with stakeholders of varying viewpoints and expectations is required.
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects with strict timelines is required.
  • Experience supervising a team is required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support all projects assessed in the Whitehorse Assessment District.
  • Maintain relationships with proponents, Government of Canada, First Nations and Yukon Government.
  • Ensure participants understand the assessment review process and how to participate.
  • Manage the operations of the Designated Office and supervise staff.

Whitehorse Designated Office Full Time Whitehorse, YT $106,832.78 - $137,566.42 CAD per year

Full-time, permanent, working 75 hours bi-weekly

$106,832.78 - $137,566.42

What’s YESAB?

The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) is an independent body established under the Umbrella Final Agreement and YESAA legislation in 2003. YESAB conducts environmental and socio-economic assessments of projects before they are approved by the governing body.

Our purpose is to conduct neutral assessments in the Yukon that contribute to protecting the environment and social, economic, and cultural well-being of First Nations and residents.

  • General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nations Agreements, is required.

  • Relevant work experience or an undergraduate degree and/or post‑secondary training in environmental science, social science or a similar field of study is preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects with completing timelines is required.
  • Experience supervising a team is required.

The Assessment District Manager , reporting to the Assessment Director, will be a part of the Whitehorse Designated Office, as well as YESAB’s management team. The Assessment District Manager is responsible for:

  • Managing and supporting all projects assessed in the Whitehorse Assessment District.
  • Maintaining relationships with proponents, Government of Canada, First Nations and Yukon Government.
  • Ensuring that participants understand the assessment review process and how to best participate in that process
  • Managing the operations of the Designated Office and providing support, guidance, and supervision to staff.
