Job summary

Nortek Data Center Cooling in Saskatoon is seeking an assembler to produce and assemble air units and components according to exact specifications, collaborating closely with manufacturing leads. You will read blueprints, set up tooling, use hand and power tools, and be trained to operate overhead cranes and forklifts while maintaining quality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
  • At least 2 years assembly or construction experience.
  • Ability to be trained to operate overhead crane and forklift.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to apply torque with hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow blueprints, routing, specifications.
  • Operate overhead crane and forklift when moving and assembling products.
  • Perform assembly tasks using hand or power tools.
  • Maintain clean, safe work area and follow safety regulations.

Job description

Job Summary

The Assembler is responsible for producing and assembling air units and parts according to specifications. Under the direction of the Manager and/or Supervisor of Manufacturing Operations, the Assembler assembles mechanical units, fabricated parts/components and/or electrical/electronic systems to make subassemblies, assemblies or complete units using hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures and miscellaneous equipment. The role includes fitting, aligning, calibrating and adjusting parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product operating requirements; repairing units or products that have failed to meet requirements. Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heights, and risk of electrical shock which requires the use of protective gear to ensure safety.

Job Responsibilities
  • Read and follow blueprints, routing, specifications and other instructions to build and assemble parts and equipment accurately and on time.
  • Be trained and certified to operate overhead crane and forklift trucks while moving and assembling products.
  • Perform any assembly-type functions using hand or power tools.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships within the company.
  • Commit to performing job duties in a manner that ensures a safe work environment.
  • Willingly and cooperatively perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Wear protective gear and equipment as required.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of some secondary or trade school technical and/or general business courses is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of similar assembly or construction experience (W2) or equivalent combination of technical school, on‑job training and work experience.
  • Ability to be trained and certified to operate overhead crane and forklift trucks while moving and assembling products.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools (pipe cutter, ratcheting, standard wrenches).
  • Ability to apply significant torque with hand tools throughout the entire workday (wrenches, ratcheting tools, channel locks, etc.).
Physical Demands
  • Lift or move heavy objects/components, frequently up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity with the ability to make coordinated hand and finger movements to grasp, manipulate and assemble objects, and handle tools.
  • Work in repetitive motions and under finger, hand, and wrist pressure.
  • Stand for prolonged periods on a concrete floor.
  • Walk, reach with hands and arms, push, pull, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Climb ladders and work in high areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (speak, read, write) in English.
  • Good math skills are preferred for interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • Work independently and with others.
  • Wear safety gear at all times; this is a safety-sensitive position.
