Salary:

$50.07 - $56.75 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay. Employees in this division may elect to enroll in the College Pension Plan with contributions matched by the Employer.


Description:

NLC's Arts & Sciences Department requires one or more sessional instructors to provide delivery CHEM 103: Fundamentals of Chemistry 1. This course builds on the foundations of CHEM 11 and 12, examining the organization of the atom and how our ideas have progressed over the last century. This information is used to derive several different, yet compatible, models of chemical bonding, and to account for the behavior of some representative elements.


The Arts and Sciences programming at Northern Lights College offers a wide variety of courses for students interested in working toward certificate or diploma completion at Northern Lights College or receiving transfer credit at other post-secondary institutions.


NOTE: Course hours consist of a video-conferenced lecture, DC seminar, DC lab, FSJ seminar and FSJ lab. Travel included in weekly hours.


Qualifications:

Required


  • Master's Degree in Chemistry,

  • Demonstrated expertise inteaching in laboratory, or equivalent experience

  • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills

  • Commitment to student motivation and success; and the

  • Ability to function effectively as a team member through a collaborative approach.


Preferred


  • PhD in Chemistry

  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education.

  • Demonstrable success as an instructor in a post-secondary environment.

  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
