Job summary

HDR in Ottawa is seeking an experienced Architect to join the Ottawa Studio. You will contribute to design and delivery across healthcare, education, and government projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing contract administration.

The role requires 8–10+ years experience, registration as an Architect, and proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. A strong leadership mindset and ability to manage multiple projects is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience.
  • Registered Architect.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project).
  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a culture of client‑focused project delivery through high technical competency.
  • Independently coordinate the work of a multidiscipline team through all phases of projects.
  • Be involved in multiple projects at any one time.
  • Actively participate as a member of our in‑office studio, mentor junior intern architects, technologist within the team.
  • Organize and participate in construction documentation including envelope design, interior details, and cross-disciplinary coordination.
  • Collaborate with design teams to facilitate project execution through detailing.
  • Lead coordination with outside and internal engineering consultants.
  • Perform QA/QC and coordinate milestone QA/QC reviews and technical reviews.
  • Understand Architectural specifications in contract documents and coordinate with writers.
  • Be well‑versed in implementation and application of OBC.
  • Project types include healthcare, LTC, higher education, and government projects.

In the Ottawa Studio role, we seek a candidate with technical expertise and contract administration experience across a variety of project types. The successful applicant must have the drive, experience, and team spirit necessary to contribute to the creation of exceptional projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project design teams to facilitate project execution through highly skilled detailing.
  • Leading coordination efforts with outside and internal engineering consultants.
  • Performing QA/QC and implement project milestone QA/QC reviews, technical reviews across projects.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of Architectural specifications in contract documents and coordinate with specification writers.
  • Be well‑versed in implementation and application of OBC.
  • Project types include healthcare, LTC, higher education, and government projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 8 - 10 years of related experience
  • Must have experience in both small and large‑scale projects
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Revit 3D Modeling, and Microsoft Office
  • Experience in the preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • Experience performing contract administration
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, with minimal management oversight
  • Committed to being a team player willing to learn, expand their skill set, and be versatile in tasks
  • Professional, self‑motivated, well‑organized, and detail‑oriented with the flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience and/or interest in Sustainable Design / LEED / WELL
  • Proficiency in French is an asset but not required
Required Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
