Job summary

The YMCA of Northern Alberta is hiring a Coordinator Aquatics Operations to lead daily aquatic program delivery and safety, reporting to the Aquatics Manager. You will supervise staff, manage schedules, ensure compliance, and drive exceptional experiences for members and participants.

This on-site role requires a proactive leader with a strong safety focus, solid lifeguarding credentials, and the ability to train and mentor swim instructors and junior lifeguards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role in an Aquatics environment.
• University degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, or related experience an asset.
• Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C.
• National Lifeguard (NL) Pool.
• Must hold one of YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI) or Lifesaving Instructor (LSI).
• Obtain Lifesaving Swim Instructor (LSI) and YMCA Champion - Aquatics within 1 year of hire date.
• Will be trained in Oxygen Administration (O2) with 6 months of hire date.
• Familiar with Pool Standards and Regulations for operating an aquatics facility.
• National Coaching Certification (NCCP) are an asset.
• Leadership Certification in Aquatic Supervisor Training (AST), National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI) or First Aid Instructor (FAI) is an asset.
• Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check.
• Flexible work schedule – including early mornings, evenings, weekends and stat holidays.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and other . forms of technology effectively.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Aquatics staff and volunteers; recruit, hire, train, coach and supervise.
• Build a high functioning team with clear expectations and ongoing feedback.
• Coach staff through role modelling and The Y Way Service Standards.
• Oversee swim program quality and ensure lessons progress for all ages.
• Support the Aquatics Manager with program quality plans and audits.
• Mentor Junior Lifeguard Club and Swim Instructor programs to high standards.
• Model safety rules and active supervision on deck and in water.
• Continuously train staff to meet health, safety, and program standards.
