Job summary

The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department invites applications for Aquatic Instructor III at Gordon Head Recreation Centre. Up to 16 casual positions are available to support safe, engaging lifesaving programs for participants.

Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, instructing and evaluating participants to agency standards, maintaining records, enforcing pool rules, and ensuring pool deck safety and program quality.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 and Lifesaving Instructor award.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C.
  • Six months of teaching experience.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lesson plans and deliver instruction for lifesaving programs.
  • Instruct and evaluate participants according to agency standards.
  • Maintain records and reports.
  • Enforce pool rules and ensure safety of the pool deck.
  • Monitor general maintenance and safety of pool area.
  • Ensure participant safety and program quality.

Aquatic Instructor III

Up to 16 Casual Positions

Parks, Recreation and Community Services is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Aquatic Instructor IIIs to join the Recreation Division at Gordon Head Recreation Centre. This role is ideal for aquatic professionals who are committed to providing safe, engaging, and high-quality lifesaving instruction while supporting a positive experience for program participants.

Under the general direction of a Recreation Programmer or Program Technician, the Aquatic Instructor III plans and delivers instruction for lifesaving programs. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, instructing and evaluating participants according to recognized agency standards, maintaining records and reports, enforcing pool rules, monitoring the general maintenance and safety of the pool deck and area, and ensuring participant safety and program quality.

Requirements include completion of Grade 12, current Lifesaving Instructor award certified through the Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon Branch, Standard First Aid and CPR-C, and at least six months of teaching experience. Employment is subject to provision of a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) check no older than 6 months. Renewal of PIC-VS is required as per policy.

The successful candidates will be required to work varying shifts as operationally required. As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted. Although we thank all applicants for applying, only those under consideration will be contacted.
