In return, we promise to provide support, opportunities and performance-led financial rewards at a workplace where you can shape the future, win as a team and grow with us.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Property Appraiser who will play a key role in supporting our growth.

You will be responsible for visiting the site of the claim to produce appraisals of the restoration, repair or replacement costs for building damage. You will occasionally be responsible for auditing estimates and work performed by the contractors/restorers who are members of an Intact network of partners to ensure compliance with standards and policies, as well as handle complaints regarding the quality of the work, the costs, and the restoration methods.

What you’ll do here:

  • Go to the incident site to talk to the insured, assess the extent of the damage to the building, and determine the cause and loss.
  • Establish detailed cost estimates and verify the estimates provided by contractors to ensure that the services provided meet the procedural standards and that our insured receive a high level of customer service.
  • Provide technical support to claims adjusters on the outcome of the appraisal and negotiate with contractors to reach an agreement regarding costs.
  • Produce expert reports on problems encountered during the appraisal or the performance of post-claim restoration work and complete audits regarding our partners’ compliance.
  • Establish the reconstruction values to determine the adequacy of insurance coverage.

What you bring to the table:

  • Diploma in building appraisal or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • 3 years’ experience in claims appraisal.
  • Proficiency with Xactimate claims estimating software.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of the restoration of damaged buildings.
  • Planning and organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Customer focus.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) – Need to process claims files from English-speaking clients on a regular basis.

What we offer

Our hybrid work model provides the balance between working from home and enjoying meaningful in-person interactions.

Working here means you'll be empowered to be and do your best every day. Here is some of what you can expect as a permanent member of our team:

  • A financial rewards program that recognizes your success

  • An industry leading Employee Share Purchase Plan; we match 50% of net shares purchased

  • An extensive flex pension and benefits package, with access to virtual healthcare

  • Flexible work arrangements

  • Possibility to purchase up to 5 extra days off per year

  • An annual wellness account that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle

  • Access to tools and resources to support physical and mental health, embracing change and connecting with colleagues

  • A dynamic workplace learning ecosystem complete with learning journeys, interactive online content, and inspiring programs

  • Inclusive employee-led networks to educate, inspire, amplify voices, build relationships and provide development opportunities

  • Inspiring leaders and colleagues who will lift you up and help you grow

  • A Community Impact program, because what you care about is a part of what makes you different. And how you contribute to your community should be just as unique.
