Job summary

Yaskawa America, Inc. / Motoman is seeking a Technical Applications Engineer to support LV Drives/Motion applications, align with commercial goals and provide hands-on technical leadership.

The role involves on-site customer engagement, training, and collaboration with sales, engineering and marketing to ensure successful application outcomes for the LV Drives/Motion business unit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, P.Eng.
• 3+ years experience with VFD/Motion or similar industrial automation product applications.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring, and one-line diagrams and support and suggest solution upon analysis.
• Bi-lingual, English/French speaking, writing is preferred.
• Excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical subject matter expert for all LV Drive/Motion applications.
• Provide remote and local application support for sales, distribution and customers.
• Coordinate project orders with engineering and provide project management as needed.
• Create quotations and work with the Director of LV Drives/Motion sales to ensure profitability.

Yaskawa is currently seeking a Technical Applications Engineer to fill a newly created role within our rapidly growing Low Voltage (LV) Drives/ Motion business unit. The Applications Engineer is a key role to the commercial and technical success of Yaskawa and touches all aspects of the LV Drives/Motion business including commercial specification, customer relationships, presentations, training, application support, and several other activities in accordance with company-wide strategic goals.

More specifically, the Technical LV Drives/Motion Applications Engineer will provide expertise in the following key areas:

Applications:

• Act as the technical subject matter expert for all LV Drive/Motion applications, being a technical engineer, you would be able to analysis using drive software and other tools
• Provide remote and local application support for sales, distribution and customers. You should be a self-start and be able to work autonomously
• Be knowledgeable of and incorporate relevant industry standards
• When necessary, provide application assistance at the customer’s site
• In conjunction with training, provide application specific training for customers
• Audit and participate in market segment trade shows/presentations
• Review customer specifications and orders to ensure requirements are understood and can be met
• Coordinate project orders with engineering and provide project management as needed
• Assist product marketing, engineering, and technical support organizations on various issues

Commercial:

• Create quotations and work with the Director of LV Drives/Motion sales to ensure profitability
• Work with segment/industry managers to help with creating technical marketing material
• Create, schedule, and present sales and training material to customers
• Identify & seek out opportunities to increase revenues and/or decrease costs
• Work closely with the LV/Motion sales/technical team to help increase sales
• Assist in managing incoming customer orders for the LV Drives/Motion group
• Guide / train junior technical personal
• Assist customer with drive start-up applications, in person and remote support

Development:

• Assist in performing application support for projects and other similar duties as required
• Assist product marketing, engineering, and technical support organizations on various issues
• Participate in design reviews for valuable feedback on issues and enhancement
• Coordinate with project management between 3rd party service providers and vendors
• Solve problems with highly effective solutions and provide technical guidance to others
• Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, P.Eng.
• 3+ yeas experience with VFD/Motion or similar industrial automation product applications.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities as well as the ability to plan, organize, set priorities, and resolve issues expeditiously to meet customer demands.
• Ability to read and comprehend schematics, wiring, and one-line diagrams and support and suggest solution upon analysis
• Practical experience working with LV Drive/Motion products in the field.
• Bi-lingual, English/French speaking, writing is prefered
• Excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
