Job summary

The City of Edmonton seeks an Animal Control Peace Officer I to respond to public concerns, patrol parks, and enforce animal-related regulations while protecting public safety and animal welfare.

You will work with police and community partners, prepare investigative reports, testify in court, and deliver educational presentations; a two-year diploma and strong customer service are required, with evenings and weekends common.

Qualifications

• Two-year diploma in Police Studies, Security, Criminology, or related field, with at least 3 years of customer service experience including 1 year in law enforcement.
• Grade 12 plus 5+ years in recognized law enforcement; or recent police service; or Peace Officer Level I in Alberta for 2+ years.
• Strategic de-escalation program

Responsibilities

• Respond to public complaints and conduct proactive patrols related to domestic animals and wildlife.
• Investigate animal-related incidents, which may include capture of domestic animals, livestock, or problem wildlife.
• Apply enforcement actions such as warnings, violation tickets, search warrants, and animal seizures.
• Liaise with the Edmonton Police Service, social service agencies, and other collaborators to solve community issues.
• Represent the City in court proceedings, providing professional testimony and evidence.
• Engage with the public by providing educational presentations to schools, community groups, and other interested parties.
