Job summary

Dog Tales Rescue & Sanctuary in King City, Ontario is seeking a dedicated Animal Care Attendant to support our medical team and RVTs. Primary responsibilities include preparing meals, processing in-house bloodwork, assisting with treatments, feeding, and ensuring a clean, organized workspace in a fast-paced shelter environment.

The ideal candidate has 2 years of veterinary assistant experience, may have shelter experience, holds a valid G license with access to a vehicle, and can lift up to 50

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant is required.
• Shelter experience is an asset.
• Knowledge of Avimark is an asset.
• Valid Driver’s License (G) and access to a vehicle is required.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Preparing meals and feeding animals.
• Assisting RVTs with treatments and medication.
• Processing in-house bloodwork.
• Transporting dogs to and from appointments (locally and within the GTA).
• Maintaining a clean and organized workspace in a fast-paced environment.
• Walking medical and/or post-surgical dogs.
• Providing rehabilitation for pre- and post-surgical orthopedic cases.
• Conducting monthly body checks.
• Administering heartworm, flea, and tick treatments.
• Managing tag licensing and calculating food requirements.

Opportunity:

We’re looking for dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Attendants (ACA) to join our team full-time. As an ACA, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting our medical team, working closely with our Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) to ensure the well-being of our animals. Your responsibilities will primarily focus on nutrition, as well as assisting with daily treatments and blood collection. The ideal candidate will be detail‑oriented, able to recognize animal behaviours, and possess a deep sense of compassion, sensitivity, and patience.

About Dog Tales Rescue & Sanctuary:

Dog Tales is a world-renowned dog rescue and horse sanctuary set on an incredible 50 acres of green fields, rolling hills, and wooded areas in King City, Ontario. Our picturesque location - complete with walking trails, therapy pool, and a grooming spa - is the perfect setting for abused and neglected animals to heal and be rehabilitated while they wait for forever homes. Along with medical care, our team provides all of the love, attention, and training that our rescue animals need to recover from their difficult pasts, so that they can move on to permanent, loving homes, which most do. • Clear driver’s abstract (no tickets).
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Salary:

The salary for this position is $42,000 per year.

Schedule:

All animals require care year-round, including weekends and evenings. Our team members work varied shifts five days per week from Monday-Sunday, including holidays.
