Job summary

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is seeking an Animal Care Attendant to care for our animals and support daily operations. You will enrich animal lives while assisting clients and maintaining a clean, safe facility.

Ideal candidates bring a compassionate approach, basic clerical skills, and a willingness to work flexible hours in a community-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • 3 weeks vacation to start.
  • Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care or working towards preferred.
  • Previous clerical training and customer service experience seen as assets.
  • Valid G driver's license with a clear abstract.
  • Open availability including weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Care and enrichment of animals: feeding, exercising, play and engagement.
  • Maintain a clean, healthy environment: housekeeping, disinfection, laundry and kennels.
  • Support client service and administration for a seamless experience.
  • Assist with transfers to vet clinics and reporting health concerns.
  • Promote the centre through social media and fundraising initiatives.

Animal Care Attendant (ACA):We are seeking an experienced ACA with a love for spending time enriching the lives of the animals within our care. ACAs understand that ensuring a clean, stimulating, and healthy environment is paramount to quality of life for our furry residents. ACAs develop great relationships with our human friends too by supporting client service and administration for a seamless experience at every turn.

A Typical Day
  • Performing care and enrichment for our animals including, feeding, exercising, playing and/or other engagement activities
  • Ensuring a healthy environment through general housekeeping, disinfection protocols, laundry duties and kennel cleaning
  • Supporting animal physical health by performing supervised vaccinations, seeking RVT advice and general bathing and grooming dutiesMaintaining client records, recording information, and notifying a supervisor of any potential health concerns
  • Participates in the transfer of animals to vet clinic as required
  • Immerse self in the culture and goals of the centre and organization by actively promoting the centre via social media channels and participation in a variety of fundraising initiatives
Setting up For Success!
  • Team player
  • Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and control 45 kg (100lbs)
  • Valid G drivers license with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract
  • Open availability including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Previous clerical training an asset
  • Customer service experience an asset
  • Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care or working towards, preferred
