Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax, NS, seeks an Anaesthesia Assistant for Women's Perioperative Services. The role supports perioperative anesthesia care under the supervision of an Anaesthesiologist, with duties across Gynecology, OR/PACU, and Birth Unit.

Requirements include a Respiratory Therapy diploma or Nursing degree, 3+ years of experience, NSCRT/NSCN registration, and current BLS/ACLS/BCLS certifications. Excellent communication and technical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
• Minimum three years Anaesthesia Assistant experience.
• Registered or eligible with NSCRT or NSCN.
• BLS within 12 months or renewal.
• ACLS/BCLS certification is required.
• Demonstrated clinical and technical competence in anaesthesia/respiratory therapy.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Anaesthesiologist in all aspects of anesthesia care.
• Monitor patients and provide perioperative support in Gynecology, OR/PACU, and Birth Unit.
• Assist with awake intubations, difficult airways, emergencies and Epidural care.
• Educate health care professionals and introduce new technology.
