Job summary

IWK Health in Halifax is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Gynecology Operating Room. This permanent, full-time position reports to the Manager of Women's Perioperative and Ambulatory Care and offers engagement in an interdisciplinary care team.

The RN will provide holistic, evidence-based nursing care across all stages of care, lead assessments, planning and coordination with patients and families, and practice in line with the NSNU Nursing Bargaining Unit and applicable codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required (candidates with equivalent experience and education may be considered).
• Licensed or eligible for licensure by the provincial regulator is required.
• Current Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support (BLS) within 12 months, or renewal certificate, required.
• Recent Operating Room experience (within last five years) in general surgery, gynecologic, laparoscopic and/or plastics.
• Knowledge of laparoscopic and laser techniques is preferred.
• Competencies in other languages are an asset.

Responsibilities

• The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, and the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient/family care.
• The RN engages in independent, interdependent and dependent functions to provide healthcare, focusing on assessment, education and coordination of care.
• The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics and NSCN Standards of Nursing Practice.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of the Women's Perioperative and Ambulatory Care, the Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of an interdisciplinary care team, providing holistic, comprehensive evidenced based care to meet the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. The RN provides leadership in nursing assessment, and the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient/family care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability or supporting a peaceful death. The RN provides care in collaboration with the patient and family, other nurses and health team members throughout all stages of health and complexities of illness. The RN builds professional relationships with other nurses and health team members to support the work of a strong interprofessional team and provision of quality patient/family care. The RN ensures the goals and needs of the patients and families are prioritized and individualized, using nursing knowledge, critical thinking and clinical judgment. The RN engages in independent, interdependent and dependent functions to provide healthcare focusing on comprehensive assessment, patient/family education, and coordination of care. The RN helps to build our reputation for excellence in the Maritime community and beyond. The RN contributes to a sustainable health care system through formal and informal partnerships. The RN pursues excellence in care, teaching and research through a spirit of inquiry, discovery and innovation, leveraging our reputation and influence to advocate for health. Hours of Work

7.5-hour shifts as per operational requirements; Monday-Friday, days and on-call.

Your Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required (candidates with equivalent experience and education maybe considered).

• Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
• Recent Operating Room experience (within the last five years) required (general surgery, gynecologic, laparoscopic and/or plastics)
• Knowledge and skills in laparoscopic and laser techniques preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to family-centred Care required.
• Competencies in other languages an asset.
